A bizarre game at the N-Power Stadium saw a battling Risborough team put in a much improved performance against high-flying Didcot Town FC on Monday night. Despite not scoring for the first time this season, Risborough generally looked more organised, defended well and looked threatening going forwards, with all the goals scored in a crazy 20 minutes either side of half time.
The game stated brightly with Alfie Janes leading the line well until coming off injured on 26 minutes. The game was end to end with half chances to both sides, before Didcot finally got the breakthrough on 40 minutes when Didcot unfairly pinned our keeper and headed into an empty net. To compound matters further, 5 minutes later a hopeful punt at goal took a deflection off a Risborough player's back and looped into the net for 2-0. Really Ris ought to have been coming in at half time 0-0 and the players were told this and not to be disheartened.
The second half started brightly and on 50 minutes HOW Ris have not had a stonewall penalty noone knows, and the resulting play saw Didcot race down the other end and claim the softest penalty in return. A sense of injustice descended on the players and within 10 minutes Didcot had added two more before Risborough dusted themselves off and started to play again. Lochlan Warkcup, Sam Wilkins, Alfie Peake-Pijnen and Sam Russell all went close in the last 15 minutes but couldn't find a consolation and the match ended 5-0, which noone felt was a fair reflection, however was a fair result as Didcot were without doubt the better and more polished team.
