Second half rout ends Rangers Challenge Trophy Run
Bob Rayner reports
Rangers, with a mountain of fixtures, made wholesale changes from the side that won so convincingly at Dunstable two nights previously, in this Thursday cup fixture at Ardley United. Only goalkeeper, Jack Brooker and midfielder, Adam Morris, from Tuesday's line up started in this cup tie as Manager Mark Eaton shuffled his squad in an effort to lessen fatigue for the important league fixtures still to come. An uneventful first half, in which both sides created only half chances, ended goalless.
The second half went Ardley's way following a rare mistake from Brooker presented veteran striker Odhiamo with a simple header into an empty net in the 63rd minute. The same player doubled the home side's lead ten minutes later before a late double from Casbieri rounded off a dismal evening for Rangers. Hopefully the gamble will pay off with five league games left to play, and a Premier Division Cup tie against Hadley to come, starting with an away trip to Leverstock Green Saturday. Good luck to Ardley in the next round.
As I wasn't in attendance, no man of the match award.
