AND FINALLY
Mike Taylor reports - Having watched Harefield’s somewhat fortuitous victory at Penn & Tylers in the previous round, I was interested to see how their next opponents Kent Football United would fare. The visitors from Dartford, who play in the South Eastern Counties League were only formed in 2010, mere newcomers compared to the ‘Hares’. To be fair, for the first 20 minutes or so the visitors seldom managed to get out of the own half, but would Harefield’s profligacy in the visitors penalty area prove to be their undoing, with a whole series of misplaced passes, shots and the woodwork. Harefield’s right back Green, on 30 minutes, had other ideas drilling a shot towards the visitors goal, which aided by an unfortunate deflection found itself in the back of the net 1-0. For the next 10 minutes or so the visitors began to push forward with greater determination, but Harefield’s back four remained calmly resilient. 10 minutes into the second half and the home team’s custodian had his fingers tingling when he parried a fierce shot, the ball then played with immediacy down the centre of the park to the feet of Pacquette, who had probably waited all afternoon for an opportunity that he was never likely to miss 2-0 then, followed by a rest on the bench for the goalscorer. The third and final goal (80th) from a delightful cross and the Hare’s were well and truly in the next round. For Mr Green, a birthday celebration, I hope the badger’s leave your pitch alone while you are away…Enjoy. Of course in any game, at some point the referee deserves a mention and probably the Assistants as well…no names here, but only ONE dud whistle between the three of you … bet you don’t do that again??? - The Roving Ref.
