THE GLADWISH CHALLENGE TROPHY Quarter Finals
It was an all Division One affair in Tuesday’s two Gladwish Challenge Trophy Quarter Finals with pick of these being table topping Stotfold hosting third place Ampthill Town, the tie played in front of a crowd of 162 was a highly competitive ‘local derby’ with the hosts edging it by the odd goal in three thanks to a late winner. The other tie saw another ‘local derby’ as sixth placed Northampton Sileby Rangers hosted fifth placed Wellingborough Whitworth, once again a well contested affair that saw the clubs share six goals to set up that lottery of a penalty shoot-out which went in favour of the visitors 5-4. Whitworth will now travel to Stotfold in the semi-finals next month thus ensuring a Division One side in the Final. Full results and goalscorers are listed below.

3-3 [4-5 pens] Northampton Sileby Rangers v Wellingborough Whitworth (Burrows [2], Opponent Own Goal) / (Bailey [2], Lovell) Attendance: 74
2-1 Stotfold v Ampthill Town (Stevenson, Sutton) / (Peacock) Attendance: 162

PREMIER DIVISION
Flackwell Heath made it six wins from their last seven league games with a 2-0 success at struggling Baldock Town, Heath remain fifth in the Premier Division standings while Town remain fourth from bottom. Full result and goalscorers are listed below.

DUDLEY LATHAM MEMORIAL (PREMIER DIVISION) CUP Second Round
(Sponsored by S & T Sales and Marketing)

Three Dudley Latham Memorial [Premier Division] Cup Second Round ties took place on Tuesday night, Dunstable Town required a penalty shoot-out to defeat visiting Arlesey Town following a 1-1 draw, Town will now host Ardley United next month in the quarter-finals. Holmer Green hosted Oxhey Jets having defeated them in the league in Hertfordshire on Saturday and it looked like another success was on the cards as they led at the interval however Jets were in no mood to let the chance of silverware slip by and a spirited second half performance was reward with two goals, the winner coming in the last minute to earn them a trip to Flackwell Heath next week. The other tie saw Tring Athletic cruise to a 4-0 success at Aylesbury Vale Dynamos, the visitors netting three times before the break to earn a trip to Baldock Town next month. Full results and goalscorers are listed below.

0-4 Aylesbury Vale Dynamos v Tring Athletic (Oppong [2], Hutchins, Farruch) Attendance: 82
1-1 [5-4 pens] Dunstable Town v Arlesey Town (Osei-Addo) / (Davis) Attendance: 121
1-2 Holmer Green v Oxhey Jets (Bent) / (Inch, Swaby) Attendance: 25

DIVISION ONE
Winslow United’s hopes of winning the Division One title suffered a set-back on Tuesday night when they were held to a goalless draw at local rivals Buckingham Athletic, the result sees Winslow remain in second place seven points behind leaders Stotfold having played a game more. Elsewhere on Tuesday Shefford Town & Campton saw their qualification for the play-offs wobble slightly after being beaten 1-3 at Rushden & Higham United. Wednesday night saw two further Division One fixtures and these both resulted in solitary goal wins for the away sides, Penn & Tylers Green winning at Thame United Reserves while Letchworth Garden City Eagles were successful at Langford. Full results and goalscorers are listed below.

0-0 Buckingham Athletic v Winslow United Attendance: 201
3-1 Rushden & Higham United v Shefford Town & Campton (McMahon, Reynolds, Knowles) / (Ingham) Attendance: 39
0-1 Langford v Letchworth Garden City Eagles (Zekri) Attendance: 62
0-1 Thame United Reserves v Penn & Tylers Green (Hancock) Attendance: 38

AND FINALLY
Once again this season the Aylesbury Vale Dynamos tweeter caught my eye on the Twittersphere this week with the following delights on Tuesday night as his side were thumped at home – 40’ Tring through again but called offside…phew….! 0-3 and 66’ GOAL!!! Finally…only joking… Tring get through again 0-4.

RAT STOPS PLAY – The Stotfold v Ampthill Town game on Tuesday night had its moments – The Stotfold goalkeeper made some great saves and one from point-blank range. The Ampthill goalkeeper tipped a great Stotfold effort over the bar but it was given as a goal kick. Perhaps the greatest save of all was the goalkeeper of Stotfold when a creature ran on to the pitch and he picked it up and carefully placed it outside.
