A Rangers Win At Last!

Red Cards bring down Brimsdown

With Rangers still looking for a first team manager and with several managerial candidates in attendance, it was a good day for the Club to impress, and with a decent crowd and a first league win since August, they surely impressed.

Care-taker manager Nick Young made four more signings in the week to add to the three that played the previous Saturday and it paid off, although Brimsdown did contribute in a big way, having two players sent off. The game began with Rangers struggling to gel and it was Brimsdown with the first chance after seven minutes when a low shot fizzed just past the post. Six minutes later and Nick Gurney's shot was blocked in the area following a very good Rangers move. Rangers began to grow in confidence after this, with Ollie Lynch and Gurney pulling the strings in midfield. Twenty minutes in and Rangers' keeper Martyn Fox, easily dealt with a free kick. Shortly after the impressive Alex Woodfine shot just over the bar for the home side before skipper, Joel Read 's free kick was deflected just wide. On the half hour mark Read was fouled in the Brimsdown area and a penalty was awarded to Rangers. Up stepped Woodfine, who made no mistake giving Rangers the lead. As the game was about to restart a Brimsdown player was sent off for persistent arguing and swearing at the referee. Rangers didn't take long to capitalize and five minutes later Phil Pykett made it two with a neat finish from twelve yards. Woodfine and Jason Castello both went close as Brimsdown looked all at sea. With ten minutes of the half remaining, Brimsdown had a another player sent off for a second yellow. With five minutes until the break Jake Plumbridge-Dell's spectacular bicycle kick went wide, Woodfine's strong header was tipped against the bar by the visiting keeper. Castello was through and the keeper saved well at his feet before Ian Pykett's clever run ended with a shot over the bar just as the referee blew for the break.

There were few chances in the opening twenty minutes of the second half as Rangers understandably had plenty of possession without testing the Brimsdown goal. It was the Rangers custodian that was called upon first, making a good save to deny Brimsdown during a rare attack. A minute later however and Castello made it three nil with a good half volley after being set up by Woodfine. A few minutes later and Woodfine was again denied with a brilliant save after some audacious skill from the new Rangers centre forward. Risborough substitute Jayvon Case-Jarrett made an instant impression with a run and pass to set up Woodfine again, with the visiting keeper saving well at his feet. Shortly after, Woodfine was inches wide following Phil Pykett's cross. Another great save by the Brimsdown keeper followed when he dived to deny Case-Jarrett following some good play from Woodfine and Cian Banert. It was Banert who was provider for Rangers fourth goal, setting up Woodfine for a cool finish. With five minutes remaining Rangers grew complacent and with Brimsdown, throwing caution to the wind the home side sloppily conceded a penalty to allow the visitors to pull one back. In injury time some lazydefending gave them a second. Despite this, it was a deserved and welcome win that lifts Rangers two places up the table and with a new Manger to be announced shortly, maybe things are looking up!

Rangers Man of the Match: Ollie Lynch. Alex Woodfine put in a fine performance and his quality shone through, however for the second week running Lynch showed that he can run a midfield with his good retention of the ball, and despite any early yellow card he showed great control in a fairly physical game.
