Rangers travelled to in form Winslow United for Tuesday night's Division One cup quarter final in good spirits, following their victory over table toppers Broadfields the previous Saturday. Winslow, with their much vaunted forward line, were clear favourites to progress but the boys from Risborough had other ideas in a fiesty game that Winslow will rue for their missed chances. Steve Clarke began in goal for the visitors in what was his first game for a year and a half and he played a starring role in helping the Reds to reach the semi-final.

Rangers started brightly with Martin Griggs' fourth minute shot tipped over. Two minutes later and Jake Plumridge-Dell shot over from the edge of the box. Winslow's first chance came on 12 minutes when King's free kick flew wide. Soon after Clark made a good save low to his right off Coles. Plumridge-Dell hit back with a shot just over from a half cleared corner. The home side took the lead in the 16th minute when Parsons curled a superb shot into the far corner giving Clark no chance. The United players whooped excitedly in celebration! This spurred on the home side and they piled on the pressure. Rangers skipper Joel Read was forced to make an excellent block on the six yard line. King then shot over when he should have done better. With five minutes to the break James Shrimpton went close for Rangers after good work by Alex Woodfine, before Winslow's King again went close with a low shot just before the referee blew for half time.

The second half opened slowly and the crowd had to wait ten minutes before a Winslow free kick went inches wide. Two minutes later United should have made it two after Clark's mishit clearance fell at the feet of King who blazed over with the goal gaping. Rangers came back and a good ball from Griggs found Shrimpton who shot over from the corner of the area. Rangers bought on fresh legs in the form of youngsters Alfie Touceda and Jack Bradford and their pace and energy began to worry the Winslow defence, but still Rangers could not find a way through. With a quarter of an hour remaining King again found himself in front of goal following a mazy dribble but his shot was wide. With Touceda, Bradford and Plumridge-Dell beginning to penetrate, Winslow's back four began to lose their composure and with five minutes to go Plumridge-Dell burst past his full-back to hit a superb low cross across the face of the Winslow goal for Griggs to smash home from three yards. Rangers continued to press and the home side were content to clear their lines for the next couple of minutes, before a late rally saw Rangers too, defending desperately but effectively.

The game was decided with a penalty shootout; Griggs, Read, Lawrence Clark and Justin Gordon all scored from the spot with hero of the hour, Steve Clark saving one and Winslow's Freshwater blazing over, meaning that Plumridge-Dell's penalty was not required and Rangers go on to meet Buckingham Athletic in a home semi final.

Rangers Man of the Match: Steve Clark. Many good performances especially at the back but as last line of defence, Clarky kept us in it with a couple of great saves and made a crucial save in the penalty shootout.
