Rangers Hit Six to Book Vase Progress

Six different scorers on the sheet as Risborough see off the Essex Senior League side at the CMG.

Mark Brennan Reports

Risborough progressed to the Second Round of the FA Vase for only the second time in their history with a relatively comfortable victory over Essex Senior league side SOUL Tower Hamlets.

Rangers started very well and took the lead on six minutes. Josh Williams went on the first of many runs down the right wing and pulled the ball back to Niko Muir and his first time strike gave visiting keeper Finn Andreas-Watts no chance. The lead was doubled on 11 minutes when the busy Jack Hutchinson broke up a Tower Hamlets attack and fed the ball to Williams. He ran on and then pulled the ball back for Jack to strike first time from the edge of the area, the ball going in off the far post.

If Rangers thought they were going to run away with it they were given a reality check just sixty seconds after going two up when the visitors pulled one back. Ashaan Siddik threaded a pass between the Rangers back line and Samir Bihmoutine, who looked offside to this reporter, ran on to calmly round Ben Bridle-Card and slot home.

Efforts from Rio Connell, Josh Williams and Elliot Buchanan further threatened the Tower Hamlets goal but it was the visitors who troubled the score board next when, on 31 minutes, a cross from the left was missed by the home defence and fell invitingly for Jack Ashford to shoot past Bridle-Card.

Rangers went back in front on the stroke of half-time (always a good time to score!) when Jack Hutchinson was scythed down in the box and Elliott Buchanan stepped up to send Andreas-Watts the wrong way.

The second half was pretty much all Risborough as they created a hatful of chances. On 48 minutes Muir passed to Exauce ‘EK’ Kifwasima who ran into the box and saw his shot come back off a defender and the keeper to bounce over the line and put Rangers 4-2 up. Four minutes later Rio took off down the left wing and pulled the ball back to Niko Muir and his pass set up Josh Williams to shoot past Andreas-Watts and pretty much put the game beyond Tower Hamlets.

Further chances fell to Elliott, Niko and Josh whilst Bradley Bubb had what looked like a perfectly good goal chalked off for offside (Think the lino got that wrong!). The sixth goal finally came on 88 minutes when Williams completed a hat-trick of assists when he pulled the ball back for David Appiah to slam home.

The next round has seen Rangers given a home draw against Great Yarmouth Town in a game due to be played at the end of the month. Before that it is a return to league action when Sawbridgeworth Town visit the CMG Stadium next Saturday, October 17th.
