Dramatic finish as Rangers come from behind to grab a point.

POINT TAKEN

Bob Rayner reports

If you are a Risborough Rangers fan you could be forgiven for celebrating last Saturday's draw, at home to Burnham, like a win following recent form. Rangers had lost their previous four matches and shipped 16 goals in that time as they started this game against well placed Burnham. To make matters worse they were three-one down at half-time here at the Kamtech Stadium and looking like they were heading for a fifth straight defeat before they rallied brilliantly to claw a point right at the death.

Rangers started well with Harry Scott producing a good cross that was laid into the path of Matt Peake-Pijnen by Lewis Toomey, the Rangers left back firing just wide. Burnham then forced a corner, a mis-timed header causing few problems. Burnham took an early lead on eight minutes with Rangers caught square, a ball over the top was collected by Burnham's Decabo, who went on to coolly finish inside the far post. Rangers didn't learn their lesson and on the quarter hour mark an almost identical ball and finish, this time by Kioszvln, doubled the visitors lead. Two minutes later and a Misplaced pass by Rangers' Joel Read was pounced upon and Connor Hunt was forced into a good save to keep the score down. A lull in proceedings followed and it wasn't until the 32nd minute, when Rangers skipper, Josh Urquhart, made a timely clearance as Burnham threatened, that things livened up again. Rangers countered and a fine move involving Manny Williams, Scott and Michael Harding set Toomey in. The Rangers striker was denied by a quite brilliant tackle as he shaped to shoot and the ball was half cleared with Rangers soon probing again. A free kick into the Burnham area saw Harding upended; It was a clear penalty and Toomey stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to reduce the arrears. This lifted Rangers and some brave battling from Joe Fitzgerald produced a chance for Williams who shot over from 15 yards. On the stroke of 45 minutes Burnham regained their two goal advantage; Peake-Pijnen's mistimed header was punished with Decabo racing away to score with a carbon copy finish of the first two Burnham goals. It could have been four just before the break after a good run and shot was well saved by Hunt in the Rangers goal.

Risborough came out for the second half in the only fashion they could with Scott cutting inside and producing a great save from the Burnham keeper. Soon after, Williams also forced a good save after good play by Rahman Ajibola. Rangers then won a free kick on the edge of the Burnham area and Scott's kick found the head of Williams who headed straight at the keeper. 15 minutes into the half and Burnham's keeper did well to gather at the feet of Toomey, who was put through by Garry Connelly. Moments later Peake Pijnen's long throw was half cleared to Toomey, this time his shot was blocked. Another Rangers corner, flicked on by Toomey, was recycled by Read, Ajibola just couldn't quite apply the finishing touch. With ten minutes to go Scott lashed in a dangerous cross-shot that was well taken by the goalkeeper. Rangers pulled one back in the 36th minute with substitute Jamie Robinson making a big impact, his marauding run and cross down the Burnham left was met perfectly by the head of the on-rushing Connelly, giving the keeper no chance. Two minutes later and Rangers' Liam Enver-Marum saw the keeper off his line and sent in a chip that drifted just wide. With four minutes of normal time remaining a rare break by Burnham was thwarted by Urquhart with a good clearance over his shoulder. Seconds later a dangerous Burnham cross was headed over from close range before Rangers re-established their search for an equaliser. It was during time added on that they finally got the leveller when Scott's driven corner was superbly headed home by Toomey to the delight of the home crowd. There was a moment when it looked as though the celebrations would be short lived as Burnham had the ball in the back of the net, but the scorer was well offside and the game finished with another Rangers corner, well claimed by the visiting keeper under pressure.

An exciting finish as Rangers stop the rot against a decent Burnham side with a lively front-line. Rangers will need to stop leaking goals if they are to make an impact however, as once again, our frailties in defence were highlighted. Hopefully they can push on after this excellent fightback when they take on North Greenford United at the Kamtech Stadium this Saturday. Kick Off is 3pm.

Rangers Man of the Match: Lewis Toomey. I had two people in mind: Lewis and Ben Sturgess, who had another lung bursting game, however, I have gone for Lewis because he showed a cool head on the penalty when their was huge pressure, and earned us a point with a great header right at the death. As well as his two goals, he led the line well, battled throughout and bought others into the game with some great hold-up play. A good all round strikers performance from the former Leighton man.
