Rangers clock up emphatic Bank Holiday victory

KINGS LANGLEY 0 RISBOROUGH RANGERS 4

Match report by Mark Brennan

Risborough recovered from their weekend Isuzu F.A. Vase exit with a well-deserved League victory over Kings Langley on a baking hot Bank Holiday Monday in Hertfordshire.

The first ten minutes, however, gave little indication of the result to come as the home side started well, moving the ball around and stretching the visitors. George Ironton shot wide on four minutes and Lee Stubbs brought a comfortable save out of Ben Bridle-Card two minutes later but that was about as good as it got for Langley

On ten minutes a ball down the right was well battled for and won by Elliot Buchanan who fed Andrei Chiriac on the edge of the area. The in-form winger controlled and then fired home with the aid of the post to give Rangers the lead.

Chiriac had a further shot just wide on the half hour mark before turning provider four minutes later as his perfect pass down the right gave Dernell Wynter the chance to run on and slam the ball past Charlie Crowley for his second goal of the weekend.

Rangers fans were truly in dreamland just four minutes later when a fine team effort involving EK, Andrei and Dernell set up Elliot to shoot and give Crowley no chance as he put the visitors three up. It was almost four just before half-time as Dernell’s perfect cross was headed narrowly wide by Elliot.

Langley made four changes at the break – one of their supporters said they should have made 11 - and that seemed initially to stem the visitor’s waves of attack. Buchanan set up Chiriac on the hour mark but on this occasion he hesitated just enough for the opportunity to go begging. A minute later Buchanan saw an effort well saved by Crowley before, on sixty-two minutes, he did chalk up his deserved second goal of the game. A long throw was flicked on and the big striker got between two defenders to run and calmly chip the ball over the stranded Crowley.

With the game pretty much out of the reach of the home side Rangers manager Gary Meakin took the opportunity to give respite to some players from the energy sapping heat whilst giving all of all of his subs some game time.

This result moved Risborough into the Top Ten of the Spartan Premier and will hopefully act as a great confidence booster ahead of their forthcoming Emirates F.A. Cup fixture away to Epsom & Ewell this coming Saturday.
