Rangers Honour Grace with Victory

James Chennells9 Mar - 10:16

Risborough comes together to remember Grace Middleton before securing a fifth consecutive league win.

On a day when all at Risborough Rangers came together to remember Grace Middleton – and thanks to everyone present from both clubs for perfectly observing the minutes applause and the minutes silence – Rangers made it five wins on the spin after completing a League double over Arlesey Town.

The visitors have been beset recently by problems both on and off the field. To their credit they have regrouped under new manager Luis Navdrio and they almost went in front on 8 minutes when Dimagio Robinson hit the Rangers post. Three minutes later, however, Risborough took the lead. EK danced his way into the visitors box and was upended by Ronnie Ward. Up-stepped Andrei Chiriac who made no mistake from the resulting penalty.

Rangers had plenty of opportunities to extend their lead – on 17 minutes Andrei blasted over from a good position after he was set up by Josh Williams and on the half hour mark Andrei turned provider to set up Manny Williams but he also blasted over. Manny then saw his neat flick on the stroke of half-time well saved by Arlesey keeper Arun Khan.

The second period again saw nearly all of the action taking place in the Arlesey half. Andrei sent an effort wide on 48 minutes whilst Elliott Buchanan saw his 66th minute shot saved by Khan. A minute later Andrei’s effort was deflected into the side-netting whilst Josh Williams somehow hit the post on 70 minutes with the goal gaping.

Rangers did get their deserved second goal on 80 minutes when Josh Williams nicked the ball in his own half and placed a perfectly weighted pass for Rio Connell to outpace two defenders and slot through the legs of Khan, the ball going in off the post.

The plucky visitors did get one back on 89 minutes when Rangers failed to clear the ball from a free kick and, after it had bounced around the home area, it was eventually poked past Ben Bridle-Card to set up a last few jittery moments for the home support.

The games continue to come thick and fast for Rangers. This coming Tuesday evening they will host fellow Play Off contenders Kings Langley at The Kamtech Stadium in what is sure to be a hotly contested fixture
