A very successful week on the road saw Rangers record their third consecutive away win and though this game never reached the heights of the previous Arlesey Town and Everett Rovers encounters, three points is three points and they were enough to keep Risborough at the top of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.

The only goal of the game came on seven minutes when an in-swinging corner from Rio Connell was met by the head of Luke Neville who powered home his first strike in a Risborough shirt, hopefully the first of many. They nearly had a second on 14 minutes when Josh Williams set up Rio but his effort flew over rather than under the bar.

Kempston are a solid enough team and they nearly had an equaliser on the half hour mark when Devonte Simms blasted over when well placed. At the other end Niko Muir saw a goal bound effort deflected wide on 33 minutes. Half time, 1-0 to Rangers.

The second period produced even fewer efforts of note, Kempston’s lively Taylor Robinson forcing a save out of Ben Bridle-Card on 51 minutes probably the nearest either side came to a goal. In fact, it was more notable for the amount of ‘tactical fouls’ on Rio than strikes on goal and yet when Rio complained it was he who got booked!

Not a game that will live long in anyone’s memory but still one that required a determined and hard-working effort from the boys in the unfamiliar blue / black kit and the three points gained could prove vital come the end of season.
