Rangers made their first ever visit to Milton United and came away with all three points after putting on a superb attacking display. In a sometimes feisty game, played in very windy conditions, it was the visitors that mastered the conditions and on chances alone, could easily have helped themselves to double figures but for some wasteful finishing and some courageous defending by the home side. Milton were restricted to sporadic breaks, but with Josh Urquart and Alex Sethie in commanding form at the heart of the Rangers defence goalkeeper Jack Brooker was rarely troubled. Despite their good start going into the wind, Rangers had to wait until the half hour mark before taking the lead. After a frustrating wait and several missed chances, Sam Pekun opened the scoring with a clever turn and finish following some good work by Brian Haule. Cue Pekun's customary acrobatic celebration to the delight of the travelling supporters! Two minutes later and Rangers went two up with a superbly worked goal. Following a decisive move that cut the home defence apart, Bertie Squire-Adams rifled the ball into the roof of the net. Rangers continued to create chances with Milton defending deep and the home side looked relieved to hear the half time whistle.
United enjoyed a good spell following the break with Brooker making a couple of saves early on. Rangers weathered the storm however and with Ben Hammond, Davis Haule and Gary Rymer winning the midfield battle, Rangers began creating openings in the Milton defence once more. The supporters witnessed a first ever 'sin binning' in the 65th minute when the Milton captain was sent to the bench for ten minutes for dissent, and it proved a pivitol moment. Rangers peppered the Milton goal, producing some smart work from the home keeper and some desperate defending from the patched up Milton back line. The visitors finally took advantage of the missing skipper when, seven minutes into his sentence, they scored a third after the brilliant Pekun robbed his full back and raced through to score. Shortly after, United were back to full strength but it mattered little as Rangers continued to dominate and they soon had a fourth when Brian Haule rose at the far post to head home Pekuns cross. With six minutes remaining Rangers were awarded a penalty and Brian Haule slotted home his second to make it five and in the final minute Pekun was bought down for another penalty. Haule graciously gave the ball to new signing, Dan Delderfield, who began his account in a Rangers shirt by sending the keeper the wrong way to make it six.
It was a thoroughly professional job on the road for Rangers with a great team effort. However, Tuesday night's game at home to Kidlington Development will be a much tougher test as they come to us having won both their opening games against good opposition.
Rangers Man of the Match: Sam Pekun. There were plenty of candidates today but Sam stood out. He was a constant threat, scoring two, setting up another and winning a penalty. In this from he is a nightmare for any defender!
